Carrion Swarm is resistable. Put on 2-3 pieces of crafted SR gear along with the Medallion of Karabor and Carrion Swarm won't do much. Fight is a joke with your healers in SR Gear.

As someone pointed out, Anetheron is the second boss of the Mount Hyjal raid instance. The encounter doesn't require any special raid setup, but it is recommended to have at least 8 healers and perhaps a prot paladin with some fire resist (~200 unbuffed).

The trash waves are consisted of the same mobs as Rage Winterchill (see his page for more details), but there is a new mob that gets introduced.

Banshee: These mobs don't hit very hard, for they mostly shoot a ranged spell for 2k. However, the real trouble with these mobs come with their ability to put up a shield that absorbs all magic damage. It is recommended to have the melee take these down first.

Strat: The trash waves could be handled the exact same way as Rage Winterchill's trash, except if a wave contains Banshees, have your melee target them down. Keep the cc on the Shadowy Necromancers and have them be the second target of the melee group. Whenever a wave consists of 4 Shadowy Necromancers or more, your tanks need special attention. If they are coupled with 2 or more abominations and a few ghouls, more healing should be done. If you have a prot paladin, have him tank as many mobs as possible while the remaining offtanks pick up the abominations. Have the exact same kite paths as before, and make sure that at least one healer is paying attention to the kiting hunters (a lock with curse of exhaustion could do the job, albeit it is very risky, use a lock only if your hunters are KIA or you don't have 2 hunters).

Here are the trash waves:
1)10 ghouls
2) 4 abominations and 8 ghouls
3) 4 shadowy necromancers, 4 crypt fiends, and 4 ghouls
4) 2 banshees, 6 crypt fiends, and 4 ghouls -Banshees are introduced
5) 4 banshees, 6 crypt fiends, and 2 shadowy necromancers
6) 2 abominations, 4 shadowy necromancers, and 6 ghouls(!)
7) 4 abominations, 4 crypt fiends, and 4 banshees
8) 4 abominations, 3 crypt fiends, 2 banshees, 2 shadowy necromancers, and 3 ghouls
9) Anetheron

The boss Anetheron himself is a bit more difficult than Rage, but with good positioning he shouldn't be too difficult. As I mentioned before, it is recommended to have an offtank with some fire resistance gear (preferably a prot paladin, but a feral druid and a warrior could also do). His abilities are as follows.

Vampiric Aura: You can do absolutely nothing about this except to minimize the healing that he does. He gains as much health as the damage he deals, so have your rogues equipt wound poison before the encounter. Alternatively, have your hunters use aim shot or your warriors do mortal wound, but wound poison is much easier to maintain on the boss.

Sleep: He randomly puts this on few targets at a time. It cannot be dispelled, and as someone pointed out, if the slept target gets damaged, it will be gone. However, this sleep effect lasts a very long time.

Carrion Swarm: a cone shadow spell that damages everybody in the cone for ~5K and reduces the healing the damaged players DO (not receive) by 75%. It can be resisted, and the cone is about 90 degrees. It is completely random, and he can target npcs. The only way to cope with this effect is have your healers spread out in a circle around him so that only one or at most two healers get the carrion swarm at a time. The frequency that he uses this effect seems to be a bit random, but just count on that your raid should have a carrion swarm debuff on them at all times. Do not let the ranged bunch up, and have your melee spread out behind him as much as possible, for grouping players together means that that group will be carrion swarmed more often. Resto shamans are your friend in this encounter. While the carrion swarmed healers can't heal for much, a little bit is more than nothing at all, and this fight isn't an endurance fight.

Inferno: Every minute he'll randomly target a player and cast this spell on them. It is a 3 second cast, which gives the targeted player 3 seconds to run towards the fire resisted offtank by Jaina. The offtank should taunt the inferno (if he's a prot paladin) or intercept/feral charge it and drag it back to Jaina. The inferno hits fairly decent, but its true danger comes with its melee flame aura that hits for ~3.5k. A combination of carrion swarms and an inferno dropping on players could mean quick deaths, so make sure everyone's topped off at all times.

Strat: As mentioned before, the position for this fight is very important. Tank Anetheron at the big clearing just at the bottom of the entrance ramp. Make sure your healers are spread out equidistant from each other. One at the mountains to the right, one at the blacksmith's building, one at the riflemen/mages, etc. Your ranged should also spread out in a similar fashion. However, since the npcs and your melee are going to be behind Anetheron, make sure not a lot of ranged gather there. Have your offtank for the inferno stand at Jaina, with a dedicated healer even farther away to make sure that he/she doesn't get hit with carrion swarms. When the offtank gets the inferno, wait a few seconds and have all the ranged dps in the vicinity burn it down quickly. People often have a tendency to bunch up with dps'ing the inferno, make sure that doesn't happen. So long as your healers have the ability to keep everyone up through the carrion swarms and your offtank doesn't die from the inferno (ie it is taken down in time and the healer doesn't get swarmed), you should be fine. Drill it into your raid members' heads that they have to run towards the offtank the moment they're targeted with the inferno spell. A very common way to wipe is to have the inferno run loose in the melee and take everyone down with it; another way is for the offtank to run into the melee in order to pick the inferno up and have the offtank healer get carrion swarm in the process, leading to an offtank's death (hence a prot paladin's range taunt is very effective in this fight).

The Dreadlord, Anetheron can be found in the last campaign map of the Night Elves in WCIII: Reign of Chaos. He is also present in one of the interludes in the Undead Campaign, where he can be seen planning the dark stuff of the demons with Tichondrius and Mephistroth, an other Dreadlord.

(If you have WCIII and Total Commander, you can open the original campaign maps, and though I wouldn't advice you to change them , you can find interesting things there. For example, in the editor map, the name of the dreadlord "playing" Anetheron is Bob, and the other one "playing" Mephistroth is Joe! xP )

He enrages after 10 minutes, increasing damage done by 500% and attack speed by 150%. That also means that his Carrion swarm does around 30000 damage.

Just make sure you have a 50% healing debuff on him at all times so he doesn't heal as much from his Vampiric Aura and enrage timer shouldn't be a problem.

My guild got him down to 15% and looked like a kill and then *poof* he enraged and almost instantly killed our raid :(

Watch out not to screw the fight like my guild did tonight.

Jaina was with the infernals and she got owned, Anetheron suddenly disappeared and everybody was like "omg wtf where'd he go ?".

Be sure that Jaina aggroes Anetheron and isn't pulled by mishap near the offtank with the infernals.

This is a good fight for stacking avoidance, as it denies him the healing he does through melee damage. Just be sure you have the hp to survive unlucky sleeps and carrion swarms on your healers.

The carrion swarm has a max range of 60 yards, so healers assigned to ranged DPS and to the infernal tank should never get debuffed. You may also wish to designate a ranged DPS healer to rotate in if multiple tank healers get debuffed.

I think it is nice to point that Blizzard made a typo on the dialog text with Jaina Proudmoore after you kill Anetheron.

Instead of saying that Anetheron was defeated, she states that ANATHERON was, either she is not as brilliant as she claims to be, or was more worried about the "phat lewt" than the name.

The encounter either nerfed or bugged in 2.4.3 patch. Anetheron no longer drops Infernals.

Edit: "The Anetheron encounter in Hyjal Summit has been hotfixed and you should now once again encounter the Towering Infernals after he uses his Inferno ability."

Tip for Paladin Healers - Blessing of Sacrifice (Rank 1) is Godly. Keep it on the tank at all times. You will take 45 damage every time he or she gets hit, but if you get slept, and the tank has this blessing on him, you WILL break the Sleep effect, and can resume healing. It works very well. Also works rather well on Maiden in Karazhan.

My friend and I both play paladins, and one of our favorite things to do in this game is to see how far/successful we are able to 2-man contents. The benefits are many; aside from personal feelings of accomplishments, raid bosses drop tons of gold (Hyjal bosses drop 250g, BWL bosses about 200g each) and lots of rep.

Since I think there may be folks who are interested to know, I'll explain how we are able to 2-man this boss. We are both ICC geared though, and I wouldn't suggest anything less-geared.

Both of us are specced tank/dps. One needs to be a tank during the trash spawns; you can't survive otherwise. They're pretty much simple - be sure to throw heals to the tank occasionally. Watch out for abominations as they knock you down. Use Divine Protection when you get abomination groups. Necromancers can be tanked by the ret partner - with shadow aura they don't hit very hard; separating them from the melee mobs helps reduce incoming damage to the tank.

Anatheron is a dreadlord boss, and you want to make sure both paladins have shadow and fire resist auras.

This fight is easier to 2-paladin than Rage Winterchill, since one of you will be tanking him and the infernals. If you have an avoidance set, that would be best because it denies him the healing he gets by damaging you.

When he comes, bring him all the way to where Jaina is. Tank him facing away from everyone else - the NPCs and Jaina. Have your ret partner stand next to you when dpsing - Anatheron does not have a cleave ability. The reason here is to avoid his Carrion Swarm. Anatheron targets a random enemy (including the NPCs attacking him, not just raid members) and does a cone-wide swarm. Having your ret partner stand next to you means that he will very likely be out of the cone when Anatheron targets one of the many NPCs attacking him - your ret partner will need to be able to heal himself and occasionally you.

Towards the end, as more NPCs die from infernal immolation and carrion swarm periodic damage, both ret and tank will have a higher chance of being hit with Carrion Swarm, but by that time healing and getting him down should be much more manageable. Tank the infernals together, and be sure to have the ret paladin dps the infernal as soon as possible.

Anatheron drops 250g.

i've been trying to solo him on my hunter, but so far the best i've been able to do is get him to about 1.3 mil. for some reason, he sometimes hits for 50k or so on my pet, even though he hasn't enraged yet. anyone else had this problem and found a way to counter it?

Solo'd as a 359 combat rogue, biggest pointer on this one is placement, make sure you have various npc's behind him, if you do this he will (mostly) cast his aoe healing reduction toward the npc's

Have fun watching Jaina royally screw you over if you intend to tank him within the fort. Stupid witch won't disengage which will cause the encounter to reset unless you kill him before he kills her.

"I did... my best." yeah at making this encounter much more of a head ache than it needs to be.

If you're a hunter, keep him outside and simply Feign Death after an Infernal drops as this will cause them to disappear if you are far enough from your pet and try not to get cursed by a Banshee or you'll carry a 66% less chance to hit debuff.

Laurathos is correct, it's about placement for the Carrion Swarm. At first, I used the little group of NPCs just to the entrance of the camp, where the boss and trash comes from. Tank him facing the fortress wall, and have the NPCs attack him from behind / the side. He should turn to cast his Carrion Swarm on the NPCs every time. When the NPCs end up dying, move to the tent camp with the riflemen and repeat. Be careful, don't get too close to Jaina or she'll aggro and end up dying. He should be dead before the riflemen die.

Easily solo'd as a Ret paladin in ~iLvl378 gear. Used seal of insight and burned the inferno's asap. Other than that just tank & spank with a WoG here and there.

Here are 2 videos for a guide I made on how to solo Battle for Mount Hyjal.
I use my hunter for the first 3 bosses (Rage Winterchill,Anetheron & Kaz'Rogal) then switch over to my Paladin for the last 2 (Azgalor & Archimonde).
Tacs can be used for any group or class.
I hope it helps in whatever you want to get out of the instance.

A guide on how to solo Battle for Mount Hyjal as a retribution paladin 5/5.
It took me around 1h and 7 min to complete and I had around 1573g without selling any BoE.

So it's Cataclysm now and I didn't know what would happen, but we easily defeated this boss with 1 warrior tank, 2 DK, 1 Spriest, 1 Hunter, 1 Ret pally and 1 Healer.

The hardest thing about this boss is remembering to STAY PUT after you kill Rage Winterchill.

The most notable thing about him is the skull smiley face on his tabard.

You will engage him after the waves, for which you will see a counter at the top of your UI. The waves are Ghouls, Abominations, Wailing Spirits and Necromancer (human male casters).

When you are done killing him, you may now leave to the Horde Encampment. There are 2 bosses for each encampment and of course Archimonde is at the Tree of Nordrassil. It's a long ride if you prematurely head to the Horde base, like we did.

We tried to scout around in places off the map and hit invisible walls.

NOTE: This was a 25 man raid only so I believe at this time you need at least 10 guildies to get the Guild Hyjal Summit achievement.
